Keith Harris
I was born in Michigan and for the past 42 years have lived and worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1989, I (with the help of my wife Jeannie) founded a technology company called The Kemtah Group, Inc. in New Mexico. Kemtah provided computer-related support services for large US corporations and government agencies across the USA and countries in Central and South America. We have 4 adult sons, the second of whom is Tim Harris who was born with Down Syndrome. In 2010, the Harris family helped Tim achieve a dream of his – to own and operate a restaurant of his own. From 2010 to 2015, Tim operated Tim’s Place – the world’s friendliest restaurant serving Breakfast, Lunch, and Hugs. After 27 years in business, we sold Kemtah in early 2017 and set out to accomplish a lifelong dream to sail to the Caribbean. We lived aboard our boat full time and visited over 23 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America. We have now resettled on land to pursue our next big adventure as grandparents! In the summer of 2022, I hit a very low point in my life and sought recovery help for multi-decade long depression and the effects of a long list of childhood traumatic events. In seven amazing days of psilocybin assisted therapy at a facility in Jamaica, my life was forever transformed. I left Jamaica with rocket fuel in my veins and haven’t looked back yet! In late 2023, we launched The Harris Family Foundation (HFF) and in November of 2024 we received our official letter from the IRS granting us 501(c)3 status. We are organized as a private operating foundation. As a private operating foundation, we intend to operate by organizing and operating our own programs AND by partnering with “best of breed” non-profits to help them further their missions. Our foundation has dual missions. First, we are committed to working throughout the Caribbean, Central, and South America to help improve the lives of families who have young children with Down Syndrome and other cognitive disabilities. We are currently actively engaged in the island nations of Jamaica and Grenada and have plans to expand gradually throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Secondly, we are committing ourselves to doing and giving our very best to further the broad and equitable availability of thoughtful psychedelic assisted therapy to those who need it most. Our target populations include military veterans, law enforcement personnel, firefighters, and those on the front lines of health care. As the father of an active duty Albuquerque firefighter, I get to see first-hand the effects of workplace trauma exposure. My commitment to this cause is very, very personal for me.
